摘 要:Given a metric, and a function serving as mean curvature,on a two-sphere, the associated Bartnik quasi-local mass can be defined as the infimum of the total mass of asymptotically flat metrics in a suitable class of extensions of the given surface data. In general, the Bartnik mass is difficult to evaluate. In this talk, we review some previously known estimates and give a new lower estimate of the Bartnik mass. We also discuss some implications of the estimates on the existence of horizons (closed minimal surfaces homologous to the boundary). Part of the talk is based on joint work with Sehong Park.
